Worked example

On a R 1 000,00 contribution

ContributionR 1 000,00
Shariz fee · 2.9%R 29,00
TradeSafe card fee · 2.875%+ R 28,75
Charged to your cardR 1 028,75
Reaches the event poolR 971,00

The whole cost, in one number. Contributing R 1 000,00 to an event costs R 57,75 in total, about 5.78%, split between TradeSafe’s card fee and ours. TradeSafe may revise its rate on notice to us; if it does, this page changes with it. The amount TradeSafe shows on its payment page is always the figure that will be charged to your card.

Who actually pays it

Is the 2.9% added on top of what I contribute?

No. It comes out of the event's pooled funds, not off your card as an extra line. The practical effect is that an event collecting a R 1 000,00 contribution has R 971,00 of it available to spend, before TradeSafe's fee. If you're an organiser setting a target, budget for that.

What if the event is cancelled?

Contributions are refunded to the people who made them. Shariz charges 0% on refunds, because we don't take a cut of money going back out. TradeSafe's processing fees on the original payment are not ours to return.

Why do events carry a fee and bills don’t?

An event contribution is held in escrow by TradeSafe until your group approves the spend. That's the part with real cost and risk, and it's where our 2.9% sits. A bill payment settles straight through to whoever paid, so we take nothing. If you're just settling up between friends and don't need money held, bills are the cheaper path.

Do you make money on the float?

No. The money sits with TradeSafe, not with us, so there is no Shariz balance to earn interest on. Our revenue is the 2.9% on event contributions, and nothing else.

Will this change?

Possibly. We're early, and we'd rather say that than pretend otherwise. What we won't do is change it quietly. Any change to what we charge will be on this page before it applies to an event you create.

Want to know who holds the money while it’s in escrow? That’s a fair question, and we answer it here.
