Deleting your Shariz account
You can delete your account yourself from inside the app. This page explains how, what gets removed, and what we're required to keep.
Delete it yourself
- 1Open the Shariz app
- 2Go to Profile
- 3Tap Delete Account
- 4Confirm when prompted
No longer have the app?
Email [email protected] from the address on your account and ask us to delete it. We’ll confirm once it’s done, normally within 30 days. We may need to verify it’s really you before we act, because deleting an account is irreversible.
Three things will block deletion
Each of these exists to stop money getting stranded, whether yours or someone else’s. The app will tell you which one applies.
Money in your wallet or held in escrow
Withdraw your balance first. We won't delete an account holding funds, because deletion removes your ability to sign in and claim them.
Active events you created
Complete or cancel them first. Other people may have contributed, and deleting the organiser mid-event would strand their money.
Your contributions in someone else’s active event
Wait until those events are completed or cancelled. Your contribution is held in escrow and needs to reach its destination or be refunded first.
Deleted, and kept
✓Removed
- •Your name, email address, phone number and profile picture
- •Your saved friends and friend groups
- •Your details in other people’s contact lists in Shariz
- •Your sign-in credentials, removed immediately so the account cannot be accessed again
!Kept
- Transaction records5 years
- Escrow records7 years
- Bill and event participation rows (amounts and status only)For as long as the related financial records are kept
Why we can’t simply erase everything
Shariz records money that moved between people. If we deleted your rows outright, an event you contributed to would no longer add up for everyone else in it, and we would be unable to meet the record-keeping obligations that apply to financial services.
So deletion anonymisesinstead. Your name is replaced with “Deleted User” and your email, phone number and picture are removed. What survives is the amount and status of past transactions, with nothing left that identifies you.
Funds held by TradeSafe
TradeSafe holds event contributions, not Shariz, and keeps its own records under its own obligations. Deleting your Shariz account does not delete anything held by TradeSafe. That is also why you must withdraw your balance before deleting, because afterwards you would have no way to instruct us to move it.
